If anything good had come of doom and gloom, Democrats would have won every election of my adulthood. The idea that construction workers are reliable Democratic votes is absurd. The Democratic construction workers I've known endlessly complained how right-wing and stupid their co-workers were, not to mention the heads of the building trades unions. They're about as progressive as the cop unions.
