Tough On…Who?

It’ll take more than Ghislaine Maxwell on work release:

Texas people!

What would it take to start a campaign against TX Republicans for not protecting Texas from sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell just moved to a minimum security camp in Bryan, Texas?

There's a reason sex traffickers are held in more secure facilities.
Texas has been a one-party political culture since Reconstruction. It went with the Democrats because they were the party of the South; until Democrats became the party of integration. Even then it took the “Reagan Revolution” to completely flip the state. Call Trump important all you want: he’s no Reagan.

Does Ghislaine in Bryan matter that much? Well, we’ve got Paxton and Cornyn fighting for who’s tougher on…Democrats. Now Paxton wants to jail Beto for violating the TRO he got on Saturday. Not a chance. The only hearing Paxton gonna get is the next one, to turn the TRO into a TI. That has to happen by the 18th.  Everything else is persiflage. Cornyn is still counting on the FBI doing…something. When they aren’t following cop cars around in D.C.

The Texas Supreme Court remains mum on the absent legislators, probably waiting for the special session to end, and the whole matter to become moot. Flood relief is still AWOL, and kids return to schools with no more money than they had two years ago. But private schools on public money returns in 2026, almost 25 years after the last disastrous attempt, that failed so badly the Lege canceled it in the next session. No one remembers, so here we go again.

In a state that can’t pronounce “Guadalupe” or “San Jacinto” correctly (but oddly enough, get “Waxahachie” and “Mexia” right*), everybody’s gonna stop there: “How you pronounce that? Is it French?” They might not like Epstein, or Maxwell, or how Trump is trying to hide his guilt. But I don’t think suddenly it’s personal because if Club Fed in Bryan.

Which I can guarantee almost no one in Texas knew existed. Bryan is still best known as the first half of “Bryan-College Station,” and that’s only because College Station is entirely Texas A&M, which makes Bryan the “city.”

I get the “sex offender” label. I agree it should be a deal breaker. I agree Maxwell doesn’t deserve to be in Texas, much less wandering the streets of Bryan on work release (although considering the high life she led, there’s a certain justice in that. Take it where you can get it.). But do most Republicans and those who vote for them, care? Not now. Probably not later, either.

So it goes.

*It’s all a test of whether you’re from around here, or not. 🀠
