Polling isn't even as good science as Ptolemaic cosmology was before Galileo made his observations that made it obsolete. At least Ptolemaic cosmology, adapted as new problems in observed astronomy had to be accounted for, at least followed objective observations. Polling creates an artificial and very slanted frame of observation and rigs the results every step of the way.
