"Cancel culture" is pretty much a matter of who you are opposed to, and why.For 20 years, the conservative movement litigated against speech codes about race and sex and zealously defended corporate speech. Now? The GOP proposes speech codes about race and sex and tries to regulate corporate speech. What happened? https://t.co/fxXU7L6HO4

I am (almost) endlessly fascinated with watching people recognize the truth of Orwell's observation that it takes all your effort to see what's directly in front of your nose. Mostly it involves setting aside your own ideology and predilections. And Nietzsche’s observation that if you stare too long into the abyss, the abyss stares back into you.
I lied. It's no longer endlessly fascinating. It's just tedious. As the sign that hung in my grandparent's house said: "Ve get too soon oldt und too late schmardt." Yeah, it was in mock German. Still, it was true.
