So the news in Elon Musk World (where we all live just becuase it amuses him to allow us to) started off this way:Like I said last week, bets were off. Now they’re on but who knows if this will go for this low price: https://t.co/ahP6kli30y

That does not mean he is the only vote; nor the deciding vote.if Elon doesn't ruin Twitter, it won't be for lack of trying pic.twitter.com/QH0mPvlzfP

It also does not mean the state of Twitter has suddenly become a really fucking big deal. It is also to be noted Mr. Musk has been blocked from buying 15% of Twitter stock (his holding is 9%, per most reports), which means he won't soon acquire 51% and turn the whole thing over to Trump for shits and giggles.Me: Elon appears to have a childlike understanding of how Twitter should work.
— Mike Masnick (@mmasnick) April 10, 2022
Elon's very vocal fans: how dare you say that about the most brilliant innovator of our time? The only one childlike is you!!!

Objection, Your Honor! Assumes facts not in evidence. What impact does Twitter have now, except on the people that use it? And they are not coterminous with “society.” Except maybe insofar as celebrities have followers, and Musk says they don’t post anything, so where’s the beef?I am frightened by the impact on society and politics if Elon Musk acquires Twitter. He seems to believe that on social media anything goes. For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less.

if i had $43 billion to spare i would simply never log on to social media again https://t.co/JAJvspp74B

good news for fans of Hitler memes https://t.co/zHkooY6lC7
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) April 14, 2022
Now why would you say that about “the average Twitter user”?An enormously sensitive crybaby with a malformed understanding of free speech would at least be representative of the average twitter user.
— CJ Ciaramella (@cjciaramella) April 14, 2022
One does wonder what harm Musk could do, ultimately, that hasn't already been done.Kill freedom of speech to save democracy?
— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (@RepMTG) April 14, 2022
Say you’re a communist.
Just say it.
You’re actually scared of people freely discussing ideas and saying words.
You’re terrified of the impact on politics when truth isn’t censored.
I’m offended by your weakness. https://t.co/qnKwbttg0W
I've always just kinda taken it for granted Twitter is run by semi-psychotic techbro billionaires?

The right: “Twitter isn’t fair to me. Government must do something!”
— Joe Walsh (@WalshFreedom) April 14, 2022
The left: “Twitter is a private company. It sets its own rules.”
ELON MUSK THREATENS TO BUY TWITTER.
The left: “Oh my God, stop this. Government must do something!”
The right: “Twitter is a private company.”
This is where I remember, again, that Jeff Bezos took his billions and built a space rocket company that has only sent him into orbit, and dug a hole in a mountain in West Texas to build a 10,000 year clock no one will be allowed to see. While his ex-wife is engaged in responsibly giving away billions of dollars. And we're all told to admire Bezos and Musk. Huh.Men will literally spend 43 billion in a hostile takeover of a public company just to avoid going to therapy.

Nothing says "liberating people from centralized state and corporate control" quite like a single person owning the entire thing. https://t.co/exXLUqYrxT

He's just gaming the system:This conversation between Chris Anderson and Elon Musk about speech regulation is the most depressingly stupid thing I have heard in a long time. Chris really mentioned "fire in a crowded theater," which is like sign number one you have no idea what you're talking about.

Zoom zoom zoomMusk is talking about "his obsession with truth" on stage right now. Four years ago, he tried to get me to write that a British cave rescuer in Thailand was a "child rapist" because of false information fed to him by a fake private investigator.
