Eastertide At Adventus

I really wanted to leave Holy Week to itself; just to see if I could. It played hell with my stats, but I don’t get paid to do this, so that was a good lesson in humility. It also proved to me that, however much I tell myself I don’t care about my stats (meager starved children that they are), I do care. Of course I also fear any kind of notoriety, and take great comfort I have none (but fear it happening much the same). So it worked out as it should.

Anyway, now things around here return to normal. Such as it is.

Which is to say, what follows is (mostly) what built up for a week or so. Some of it is already anachronistic, but there you are.

  1. Thank you for the Lent postings and the daily Holy Week meditations, services, etc. I am very grateful for your pastoral direction with psalms 22 and 23. I tried a form of psalm reading that a pastor taught as a form of Lectio Divina. She suggests to read each psalm three times, and to look for what stands out to you with each recitation. To take some time between each reading to think about those words that stood out and to do it again. It really gave me a chance to experience particularly psalm 22 as a part of Easter. Your direction was appreciated, to neither skip over the Holy Week, nor to stop.

Easter Sunday was the first time in over two years I sang with a choir in church. The anthem we did was good, but what stood out was when we sang the hymn, "Christ the Lord Has Risen Today", to be in four part harmony with the choir and the entire congregation, it was wonderous. It was like a drink of cool water after a long time of feeling like my mouth was dried up like a potsherd and my tongue was stuck to the roof of my mouth.

A joyous Easter to you. Christ has risen, he has risen indeed.
