It was a huge leap to label Trump’s claims of electoral fraud “lies,” and even the term “Big Lie” has dropped from the national conversation (old news, amirite?).Conventional wisdom should be that Trump’s January 6th behavior is disqualifying even if a jury doesn’t find it illegal. That it’s not is a sure example working the refs.

Now, even as Trump continues to tell the same lies, this time as a defense against four criminal indictments, he isn’t called a liar. Is that still a judgment call?
Is Trump really “brilliant” at stirring people up? Or is the press just a bullhorn with no responsibility for how it is used? He’s very good at getting attention. But the press is the only attention he needs to get.
You can’t work the refs if there are no refs.
