*Well, that and, as good as the “Twilight Zone” adaptation was, the Jerome Bixby story is infinitely better. A superb example of the “what have we done to ourselves?” fears of the post-atomic era, where radiation was going to create monsters and medicine gave us the thalidomide babies. I can think of three science fiction/fantasy stories off the top of my head that dealt with the subject. Giant ants made for good movie visuals, but the real nightmare fuel was what we’d done to our children.
