Oh, Behave!

Trump is not going to rig a national election (how the fuck do you even do that?).  Trump is already (a year out!) in trouble in Texas. The Hispanics who went for him in record numbers a year ago, are turning against him in record numbers now. Mid-term redistricting went hard on the Hispanic 2024 vote; but what happens if it disappears, or worse, turns against the GOP? 😈

Trump also threatens to cancel early voting. How does that work? Override state law? When Roberts declared the Year of Jubilee and all but made states sovereign over how they conduct elections? Need I remind the assembled multitude that the Sinister Six are expected to destroy what’s left of the VRA soon? By what legislative authority will Trump end early voting? Texans like early voting so much you might as well propose bulldozing the Alamo and putting up a ballroom there. Paxton and Cornyn will fight like dogs for who is going to protect early voting better.. Senators may decide it’s not a bad idea (the 2/3rds not facing re-election), but the House will be another matter.  And the courts will have to apply Supreme Court precedent, which says the states get to make this decision.

Trump is just throwing another temper tantrum because even he knows what’s coming:
Historical election data shows that the party occupying the White House has lost ground in 20 of the past 22 midterm elections dating back to 1938. Additionally, the severity of the election loss has been shown to correlate heavily with the incumbent president’s popularity, and with Trump having the lowest 100-day approval rating in 80 years, Easley argued Democrats could very well win back control of Congress, and with that control, the power of the subpoena.
Trump insists the economy is great and inflation non-existent. He insists he’s the most popular President ever and Democrats only win by driving non-citizens to the polls (and Trump has rounded all them up). He insists his ICE actions are universally popular, that all is well, and the whole country is waiting to watch the rich and powerful dance in his ballroom. A ballroom he hasn’t even finished final designs of, yet.

His DOJ has list more grand jury indictments than any in history, has a record number of interim AUSA’s who have been removed by the courts (with Halligan soon to add to that tally), and is providing no better legal representation than the clowns who lost 60+ cases for him in 2020. In fact, it seems to be worse. And Trump continues to surround himself with legal incompetents who will only further erode the reputation of his DOJ.

This is the guy who’s gonna tug a national election? Take it over and declare himself victor? Suspend the Constitution and declare Congress fixed in amber for at least the duration of his term?

Sure. That’s gonna happen.

Trump can’t win, so he’s going to whine like a spoiled child. Or rather, like the narcissist he is. He can’t stand the thought of losing, of not getting his way, and he’ll never accept it. He still can’t accept that he lost in 2020. It’s a narcissistic injury, an injury to his ego, that he simply cannot acknowledge. So he’s going to whine for two years. Which will be about as ineffectual as any attempt to force states to abandon early voting.*

Don’t take part in his delusion. He doesn’t need you there, and you have better things to do.

*Trump has figured out early voting eliminates his ability to intimidate voters on Election Day.  What he hasn’t figured out is the small army he’d need to ensure success. He thinks he knows the pressure points, the districts that count. But what if those districts don’t cooperate? Trump is not the mastermind he thinks he is. His best mastermind is Stephen Miller; and Miller is a clown. 🀑
