She'll do it because she thinks Trump will set her up as dictator of Venezuela. I keep pointing out to People that she's no egalitarian democrat, she's not even a liberal democrat unless by that you mean someone who intends to install Pinochet style neo-liberal starve the poor an enrich the rich economics in Venezuela. I suspect that a large part of her supporters probably had second thoughts when she supported Trump blowing up fishing boats and killing fishermen, when he bombed Caracas, etc. I saw the demonstration for the government the one for which the government went into the barrios and started handing out big guns to those who wanted to defend against an American invasion. I strongly suspect that the American and other first world media have enormously underestimated the support for the government and overestimated Machado's support.
ReplyDeleteYup. She probably expects Trump to get Big Oil to fix the oil fields so Venezuela can make money she can channel to oligarchs who will back her. But from what I hear, the country is more fiefdoms than central government. Which is not exactly what oil companies are looking for, when they need expensive equipment and personnel in country for years.
