The Trump admin is turning US cities into armed camps and are doing everything they can to provoke people because they desperately want to arrest people for exercising their first amendment rights since they derive more sick and twisted pleasure from that than anything else.

If you feel compelled to burn a flag, please do it in D.C. so Pirro has to arrest you and then drop the case. Again. This is fascism. pic.twitter.com/HzS5Lcsp4A

It’s obvious Trump is vying to get the Sinister Six to overturn Johnson v Texas and US v Eichmann. Comey Barrett was Scalia’s student on “original intent.” Maybe she’ll consider what Scalia said about Eichmann
In one of his last public events, Justice Scalia explained why he cast the deciding vote in the Johnson case, on the principal of a textual reading of the First Amendment. “If it were up to me, I would put in jail every sandal-wearing, scruffy-bearded weirdo who burns the American flag,” Scalia said at a November 2015 event in Philadelphia. “But I am not king.”
I'm not sure people understand the extent to which the US flag has been trivialized- just look at photos of Pete Hegseth using the stars and stripes as interior lining of his suit jackets.
ReplyDeleteI took the folded flag that was over my father's casket (Marines, early 60s- almost got to see Cuba on JFK's orders)to a local No Kings event in June. It's a substantial thing, heavy and bulky. Burning a flag like that because you're upset about the direction in which your country is moving is more of a patriotic statement than waving a flimsy toy flag like you're at a football game.
Or Trump standing before a virtual wall of them, to make sure you know he means it.
