Republicans heard their Master's voice and shit their pants. And Trump agreed with him (belatedly), sometime after Trump complained about the debt ceiling being a "trap" laid by the Democrats.  But then Speaker Johnson presented CR2: Electric Boogaloo, and Trump ran to get in front of the parade:

Musk said it was "better"; but that was too little, too late.  House MAGA had had enough, and the parade Trump thought he was leading promptly walked right over him:

38 Republicans voted against Trump, Musk and Johnson.

Bill fails 174-235.

That’s a lot of MAGA Republicans for Trump & Musk to primary as promised.

Trump is still playing the old blame game (you almost can't see his lips move when MTG speaks). But the Democrats aren't having it:

Which means they have the whip hand, and they know it.

Trump went so far this early morning as to say the government should be shutdown so it will be Biden's fault. Except Biden is out on January 20, and Trump can't do anything to Biden't legacy now. There's also the fact that Biden inherited the shit economy Trump left him, and turned it into the envy of the world, complete with making us the country that sets the world price of oil (not OPEC). But that didn't save Biden or Harris from electoral defeat; mostly, says the now accepted narrative, on the state of the economy. When Trump takes over, the shutdown is his (or, if it's over, the credit is Biden's). Nothing Trump can do about that. And it's still not clear House leadership knows what its doing:

House Republicans are a long way from solving this problem.

But a technical point to mention. As of now -- 8:05 p.m. -- the House GOP leadership has not given itself same-day authority.

This means it will be difficult for them to pass a bill tomorrow under the simple majority…
