The opportunity costs of “let’s debate vaccines!” Is going to be massive and emblematic of the “we’ll settle this on Joe Rogan” mode of politics.Polio.
Measles.
Mumps.
Rubella.
Chicken pox.
Shingles.
Diphtheria.
Pertussis.
Tetanus.
Covid.
To name a few.
Which ones do you want to bring back? Which ones do you want to get yourself?
I met a retired nurse practitioner over the weekend, who opined she wasn’t going to get the Covid vaccine because “it’s just like the flu now.” 51,000 people died of the flu in 2014-2015, and the same number again in 2017-2018. That’s the entire population of the town I grew up in, when I was living there. (And, ironically, almost half the population of that town today, which is where I was this weekend. Attending the birthday celebration of a 99 year old woman. I hope nobody in the house had COVID. Or the flu. Maybe, unlike the nurse, the celebrant is up on her vaccinations.) By 2021 nearly all Covid deaths were among the unvaccinated. So let’s bring back that pandemic, too. π·
You wanna have the debate? Answer the question. Which disease do you want? Because that’s the only subject in this debate.
