That would be due to the fact the New York Attorney General is a government office, not a person. Trump may be his business, and his business Trump, but governments don't operate that way. So if the NYAG had opened an investigation before 2019? Because that's when Letitia James became NYAG. It doesn't matter when she took office; what would matter would be if she quashed an investigation for ill-defined, or defended, reasons. That would hardly be a "minor detail."
The fact that she continued (allegedly; I don't know the history of this investigation) the investigation into Trump after 2019 says there is clearly something there. Indeed, the fact she continued the investigation after 2019 is the ONLY minor detail in this story.

*Jr. is trying to echo his father's statement. He's just not very good at it. Not that working off any statement by Trump, Sr. gives you much to work with.
