ðððððĢððĄ 1 - Attorney General Ken Paxton was impeached by the Texas House in May and is now on trial in the Texas Senate for a scandal that started with an affair.
When Paxton's mistress lost her job with the Texas Senate, Paxton allegedly got controversial Austin real estate developer Nate Paul to give her a job. Paul is claimed to have then created a fake Uber account so Paxton could keep secretly visiting his lover's apartment and meet with Paul privately without the A.G.'s aides knowing.

I just received this ð, as a text message. Interesting counterpoint to the MAGA-conspiracy quality stuff I’ve seen on Xitter, about RINO’s and Paxton’s “accomplishments” (mostly West Texas oilmen fighting the good MAGA fight).
Nothing challenging the facts of the allegations, either. Paxton’s lawyers have said nothing except to raise procedural points, like some of the facts in the impeachment predate Paxton’s last re-election to AG, and all the charges should be dismissed because…
Don’t get me wrong, I looked for grounds to dismiss/seek summary judgment in every case I worked on. It’s malpractice not to. But I never worked for a lawyer, or a client, where I had to try the case in public, so dismissal was just another tool in the box. When all you can do is shout “DISMISSAL!”, it sounds like you don’t have much of a defense. And while Paxton still plans to press for dismissal, his lawyers stopped talking about it to the press when the House released 4000 pages of documents.
The Texas Tribune published the prosecution’s plans, which are to say this all started with Paxton needing Paul to give Patrick’s mistress a job in Austin (I’m assuming Patrick’s wife is only in Austin for six months every two years. His job keeps him there, so.,.). It’s a good narrative to put the whole mess in context and make the many stories one.
What’s interesting is this group: “Political advertising paid for by Texans Against Public Corruption, Inc.”, sending out fact based arguments for impeachment and couching it in the appealing terms of opposing public corruption.
This fight is not one sided at all. And the side squealing loudest (and mostly at other Republicans) is really starting to sound like stuck pigs.
I’m not sure Paxton can survive this much close attention.
