Shouting “Terrorism!” stopped being an excuse for any abuse of power some government official wanted to do, shortly after the photos from Abu Ghraib came out. Maybe try shouting about “COMMIES!” That had a revival vogue a short time back.
Not that either substituted for quaint ideas like actual legal authority, or the even quainter (now) notion of the rule of law.
Besides, why didn’t the DOJ present any evidence in court to support Trump’s claims?Yes, mostly because as a lawyer friend said, "The government didn’t put forth any evidence that anyone working at the ice office suggested that any help was necessary. It was a completely pretextual fabrication to justify the flexing of federal forces in American cities." pic.twitter.com/aXtLjSqWrh

Oregon AG Rayfield:I’ve been on the right side of a case in court like that. You just sit back and stop talking, because you know you don’t need to.
Presidents don’t just get to tweet things on Truth Social and pretend that they’re facts. When you want to do the things you want to do as president, you’ve got to have real facts behind them. And if you don’t, you’ve got to be able to prove yourself in a court of law.
If you’re wondering what happened in the courtroom, the first thing that might’ve told you the federal government wasn’t doing so hot was when they started off some of their arguments by talking about Truth Social as their source of facts.
And I actually got a comment from the judge: “Is this really how you’re going to move forward—based on Truth Social facts?”
So it’s bizarre that we have a president doing that.
