"Get Out Of Jail Free"

Don't confuse fear of consequences with virtue.  Sondland saw what happened to Roger Stone.  The jury believed everything the government put forward, in part because Stone had no defense and didn't present one.  Sondland could well be joining Stone if he came before the Committee today and plead the 5th.  Pleading the 5th is not putting your own head in the noose, but it's not a defense, either.  And what defense could he offer for his prior statements in the face of all the testimony since?

Sondland had once choice:  tell everything, and throw yourself on the mercy of the court.  A prosecution against a guy who told the truth, when his only publicly known crime is not telling the truth under oath earlier (John Dean went down for other crimes), is a much less likely possibility.  Sondland is playing the only Get Out of Jail card he has.
