Hope is not a plan either. And retaliation is not a strategy:I’m trying not to hot take this evening...— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) January 3, 2020
So my medium take is the doctrine of unintended consequences is a cruel mistress, Iran gets a vote in what happens next, and impulse is not a strategy.
Although hope is the thing with feathers, we are without feathers:Pentagon:— Dan Lamothe (@DanLamothe) January 3, 2020
"At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization."
Or, most likely, a strategy.Soleimani was a terrorist with the blood of thousands on his hands (and hundreds of Americans). Nobody should mourn him. But neither should we kid ourselves about the possibility for a major escalation. I hope Team Trump has thought through everything that is likely to follow.— Colin Kahl (@ColinKahl) January 3, 2020
Shit, it's worse than I thought:.@realDonaldTrump is psychologically incapable of strategic thinking. He’s purely reactive and impulsive. It’s in the nature of his sociopathy. https://t.co/kBb0oAEwGz— George Conway (@gtconway3d) January 3, 2020
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 3, 2020Does he imagine he's George C. Scott addressing the troops?
Lord help us all. The year is already dark.
At this moment, I would like a little more specificity about our strategy from our commander in chief than this: https://t.co/TQQ7r9C3je— Michael McFaul (@McFaul) January 3, 2020
Indeed.
I suspect he's either seen or heard about that movie and he's wagging the dog, though from what I understand, he has never lived with a dog.
ReplyDeleteWe are about to really find out what allowing the media to lie with impunity means in reality. That's my fear. I'm afraid for several people I now, including my niece, including anyone who any ignorant American yahoo will mistake as "A-rabs" I doubt they've learned the difference between Arabs and Persians, I'll bet Trump doesn't know. I wonder if his national security adviser does.
