Roberts says he will not break any ties, finding the Salmon Chase precedent from the Andrew Johnson trial insufficient. “It would be inappropriate for me, an unelected official from another branch of government” to decide matters that should be decided by the Senate.— Peter Baker (@peterbakernyt) February 1, 2020
"Constitution says I have to be here. Dodn't say I have to do anything."/2 This is huge issue. Roberts rejects the precedent from the Andrew Johnson impeachment trial in 1868. "I do not regard those isolated episodes 150 years ago as sufficient to support a general authority to break ties," Roberts said.— John Bresnahan (@BresPolitico) February 1, 2020
"An' ah ain't a-gonna."
Anyone who expected Roberts to do anything to go against the Republican Party was cherishing a delusion, the man gave us the Citizens United Decision that enabled Mitch and Trump to throw elections with billionaire money, domestic and, as was predicted after the ruling, foreign. He is as fully invested in this gangster mob as McConnell and Graham are. Everyone who remains a member of the Repubican Party now are fully invested in anti-democratic rule by lies and racists and crooks. All of them.
ReplyDeleteYep. What the both of you said. It’s tough to know how much of this behavior is moral cowardice and how much is cravenness but I suspect that Venn diagram has an awful lot of overlap.
