Already the purpose of the caucus is disappearing. At this point the story is the failure of the app/party. Buttigieg has the lead based on 62% of 99 precincts reporting (do I remember that correctly?). Anyway, whatever the final result, this will now be the political narrative.5/ They have provided all of us, inside and outside of politics, an example of how not to handle crisis communications.— Brian Fraley (@Dailytakes) February 4, 2020
Which has Bernie pissed because even if he wins, he gets no credit for victory in the narrative. He also gets no boost for forcing the rules changes that made the caucuses so unwieldy. Karma is a bitch, huh? This @ec_schneider story on @PeteButtigieg's delegate play in Iowa, hustling across all the rural Obama-to-Trump counties, looks real smart two days later. https://t.co/zyAp5D2DBl— Reid J. And four years from now we'll once again pretend Iowa is crucial to the primary process, until the morning after when the truth is once again made plain.
Get behind me Satan, I can't live without the hopes of getting rid of the caucuses. I'm beginning to think getting rid of Tom Perez will be necessary first.
ReplyDeleteHoward Dean pointed out this morning (on an NPR show) that if a Dem wins the White House, he/she won't expend any energy trying to change the primary system. A loss, however, would guarantee an overhaul.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I've yet to see a defense of caucuses, I think he's right.
