Syria Falls, But Pardons Are The Real Issue

So this is the proffered alternative to a blanket Biden pardon:

SO YOU’RE RICH, VERY RICH. You’re anywhere on the political spectrum, you cannot abide Donald Trump, and you’re looking for ways to make sure this era ends while you’re still alive. Preferably while you have some time left to savor life in a post-MAGA world.
The question is where to put your money. In the spirit of the giving season, how about launching a bipartisan Stand Up to Trump Freedom Fund? While threats are a bipartisan plague these days, and last week saw Trump cabinet and staff picks targeted along with MAGA threats against Democratic lawmakers, the most immediate and straightforward need is money to underwrite legal, physical, and political protection for people who fear breaking with or taking on Trump.
In their short history in U.S. politics, Trump and his MAGA movement have already demonstrated that all perceived enemies, rivals, and critics of Trump are vulnerable. Targets have ranged from state-level election workers and authorities to senators, representatives, military leaders, the federal workforce, and their high-profile bosses.
This is where I remind you:

A) Hunter had a legal sugar daddy who finally ran out of  money. That’s when Hunter started pleading guilty.

B) Governments don’t run out of money.

C) Trump survived only because he fleeced the rubes. Over and over and over again.  There are people promoting a legal fund to protect almost anyone who testified to the J6 committee or worked for it.  That fund would never be able to raise enough money if Trump truly decided to spend four years persecuting anyone he deemed an "enemy."   Besides, he won the election for President. Won’t be another one of those for four years. And that’s the reason we’re even having this discussion.

D) This is a discussion among very well-heeled people who have never known severe financial pressures, or been the subject of a federal investigation, much less one by a special prosecutor (someone quite a bit less constrained than your average line prosecutor. Trump knows the type.).  Ask Bill Clinton; ask Hunter Biden.  Special prosecutors can make Javert look irresolute.

E) Senator Adam Schiff, for example, can afford to decline in advance any such pardon. (He's protected by the Speech and Debate clause, to begin with.) In fact, politically he needs to. But everyone else who could be threatened by Trump?

F) Get real. There’s rich, and then there’s government. If you don’t have the resources of Elmo or access to rubes of Trump, you’re likely to find yourself up shit creek wondering where the money went. And why the government still hasn’t gone away.

  1. It would be better for the rich and quasi democratic to start an effective liberal or even just plain honest media operation that wouldn't be sold to a Comcast or other entity that would sell it down the river for a profit. I think Schiff as a lawyer is too invested in the mythology of The Law, something that poor people can't afford to believe in. Everyone I know who is working class and left of center wants Biden to issue thousands of pardons. I'd take one.
