May 4, 1970

CSNY played this as their final encore on their only and only tour, in a stadium in Dallas. It was a long concert, preceded by the Beach Boys and Jesse Colin Young, as well as a set by CSNY that gave them everything the fans had come to hear. When they came back on-stage and hit the first licks of the opening (in much faster time than this recording), an electric shock went through the crowd and we were on our feet without realizing we were standing, screaming in one voice for the duration of the song and sometime after.

F*ck Star Wars.  This is the real reason to remember the fourth day of May.*

*Yes, I'm an old man. Old enough to have seen the original "Star Wars" movie the summer it was released. Now get offa mah lawn, ya punks!

  1. I remember when Kent State happened thinking how many people who weren't freaked out over the expanded Vietnam war got freaked out over a few American college students being shot and killed. Then how the same people weren't freaked out over the students at Jackson State a short time later.

Star Wars so trivial that, much as I hated it, especially the music, it doesn't make my ten most hated movies list. Not like the thoroughly racist gay-bashing Onion Field or the merely terrible and horribly pretentious, Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea. As Good As It Gets, every "historical drama" ever made, almost any Western made, though I loved seeing Gregory Peck beat the hell out of Charlton Heston, . . . To hell with Hollywood, where lies are its major industry.

    1. The worst part about Kent State was the official conclusion that the Guard did nothing wrong, and the protesters were to blame.

Except none of the victims were protesters.
