What could we do for the people who were here when the Europeans came? Juneteenth is the right thing to do about slavery. Not the only thing, but a right thing. Maybe a day of recognition? Some kind of national acknowledgment? We don’t do atonement very well, but maybe just something to honor them, however late we are.
I'm all in if they put it on a Wednesday, right in the middle of a busy month so people will get it off when they can't make it into just another long weekend. And I don't mean the day before Turkey Day, the prelude to Black Friday. Commerce has cheapened national holidays. Make it inconvenient for the moneyed class.
