The White House revealed Sunday evening that President Donald Trump will deliver an announcement Monday at 2 p.m., followed by a print interview shortly thereafter, setting off a flood of predictions about what he plans to say.

What happened?

Q: Has your team spoken to Iran today?

Trump: Yeah.

Q: With mediators?

Trump: Yeah

Q: Anything else you can share?

That clearly wasn’t it.

It was going to be the announcement of a steel mill in Iowa. That could still happen, sometime. But not at 2 pm EDT today.

The White House announced this. And then it didn’t happen. Does it matter?
