Jens-Frederik Nielsen: We have reached an agreement with the United States and Denmark

Premier of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen have confirmed in a press release that an agreement has now been secured with the United States to strengthen security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic.

The dispute between the United States, Greenland and Denmark has now come to an end.

Greenland, Denmark and the United States expect to sign an agreement in the coming week aimed at strengthening security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic, according to a statement from the Danish Prime Minister’s Office.

“It is encouraging that we are close to concluding an agreement that safeguards and strengthens the security of Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark, the United States and the Western alliance. The agreement recognizes Greenland’s interests and our place in international cooperation. This benefits us all,” Premier of Greenland Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in the statement.

On January 14, 2026, Greenland, Denmark and the United States established a working group tasked with reaching an agreement following repeated statements by U.S. President Donald Trump that he wanted control over Greenland for reasons of “national security.” The purpose of the working group was to establish a framework acceptable to all three parties.

Agreement expected to be signed next week

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also welcomed the agreement:

“I am pleased that we now have the prospect of a good agreement for Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States. An agreement that strengthens our shared security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic and therefore also benefits NATO and Europe. At the same time, it recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination,” Mette Frederiksen said.

President confirms agreement

Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that Denmark, the United States and Greenland have reached an agreement on Greenland that gives the United States “control over security.”

“I am pleased to announce that the United States has reached an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland that gives the United States permanent control over security,” U.S. President Donald Trump wrote, among other things.

I believe the new agreement between Greenland, Denmark and the United States appears to remain within the framework of the 1951 Defence Agreement. It strengthens U.S. security cooperation in Greenland, but it does not transfer sovereignty over, or ownership of, Greenland to the United States.
Katie Miller, on the other hand, is as clueless and defective as her husband.
This is shameless propaganda. The United States is NOT getting ownership of Greenland. Stop plastering the U.S. flag on our land as if Greenland has somehow become American territory. It hasn’t.!!

Greenland remains Greenland under the Kingdom of Denmark. Show some respect for our land and the people of Greenland!!

Shame on you!!!!!
