Reading the Tea Leaves

Let's parse this "rally," shall we?

“We’re going to send them a message!” Wood shouted, referring to Georgia officials. “And the message is this. It’s 1776 in America again! And you’re not going to take our freedom. We’re going to fight for our liberty!”

"Founding Fathers" and anarchy as liberty.  Yeah, that's what they fought a revolution for.  Still, it's very American.  I've heard it was 1776 redux at least a dozen times in 65 years.  Why not one more time?

“This is America! You picked a fight with the wrong people,” he continued. “Get out of our country, George Soros! We are not going to allow ourselves to go back into the polling booth — and you hear us out, Gov. Kemp, you hear me.”

Xenophobia AND nativism.  All we need is racism for the trifecta!  Though I'm not sure why "we are NOT going to allow ourselves to go back into the polling booth."  Except as that's a swipe at the runoff, which is just fine with me.  Our man on their side, and all that.

“You’re not going to sell our votes to China!” Wood said. “We’re not going to vote on your damn machines made in China! We’re going to vote on machines made in the USA!”

Luddites revived!  It ain't as American as racism, but it'll do.  (and yes, he is discouraging voters from going to the polls in January for the runoff.)

Trump’s attorney then invoked Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I believe that a great man one time called upon the Black Americans to take action,” Wood said. “Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in non-violent civil disobedience. I want you to go to the governor’s mansion, I want you to circle it, I want you to blow your horns until Brian Kemp comes out and orders a special session of the Georgia Legislature. Get us our legislature! And we want him to fix the mess that he created!”

So, get the Georgia legislature to override the expressed will of the people, violate their own statutes and the Constitution, all in the name of....law and order?  Liberty (which is looking more and more like anarchy and mob rule, the latter being something else the "Founding Fathers" were dead against)?

“And then he can resign. And then as far as I’m concerned, lock him up!” he shouted, prompting the crowd to chant, “Lock him up! Lock him up!”

Why do they imagine this is the solution to what ails 'em?  Seriously, do they think this is the way the criminal justice system works?  Or should?  I dunno, maybe it is.  All the more reason not to give them any real governmental power.  We already made that mistake with Trump.

  1. It is disgusting that people licensed to practice law can act the way these people are acting and keep those licenses. It's no wonder the law is such a total mess.
