...a right to ice cream?

  1. In this pandemic and the Trumpian attempt to impose a dictatorship I'm becoming very interested in "rights" what people really mean when they say the word, how they use it and how it is primarily a word that is a trigger for approval without any consideration of what it means and the context it is used in.

I'd love someone to ask him if the state of the Third Reich had a right to exist and on what basis, if any state has such a right could that one be denied. I'd really like to get that explanation. I'd also like to know the history of the use of that phrase in regard to modern nation-states, especially those with a stated intention of being a republic, especially an allegedly secular republic. I strongly suspect the phrase was part of a PR campaign cooked up to take advantage of the unthnking use of the word "right" as a conditioned positive if not definitive truth of a claim.

And that would get me onto what's happened to the concept of truth and lies.
