I Have Zero Experience As A Criminal Lawyer

And not really all that much experience as a civil trial lawyer.  But I do have a lot of experience with people, and power, and with the people who wield power.

And what is quoted above rings absolutely true.

The system is only as good as the people running it, and up and down the line, the people running it vary widely in their competence and good will and moral standing.  Which is the real problem with Trump:  he exposed our need for competent people in positions of power.

Fortunately being a Representative or Senator has never been one of those positions, or Ted Cruz and Louie Gohmert would have brought the republic down long ago.  Hell, we survived Newt Gingrich as Speaker.  But a malevolently incompetent POTUS is another matter.

The Republic was never in danger of collapse in the Four Years of Incompetency (as is should come to be known.  Judges would also consider "The Four Years of A Flaming Bag of Poo on the Nation's Doorstep"), and it isn't at risk of collapse now.  That's just fear-mongering by non-governmental incompetents who want you to buy their snake oil remedy for what ails the the nation.  Trump is collapsing under his own weight as people grow tired of his same song 42nd verse.  Even some of his "evangelical allies" are beginning to think he's not the second coming of King David. 3 more years of "I WUZ ROBBED!" is not really laying the groundwork for a comeback unknown in American history.
7 Presidents in our history have tried to return; only Grover Cleveland managed it.  And he actually won the popular vote three times.  Trump has never won it once.  Which is not to say a bunch of people aren't preparing now to "defeat" him and then take credit for his loss.  But that's politics, idn't it?
