People Desperate To Waste Their Money

The average semi gets six and half mpg.

As some noticed, the convoy is going to be forced to pay out thousands for just a day of protest. The lowest price for diesel in Hagerstown, Maryland, is $3.93 per gallon, according to GasBuddy, and the highest is $4.56. So, at an average of $4.25 per gallon and the average trip from Hagerstown to I-495, and around the Beltway and back to Hagerstown, is about 184 miles.

That means each drive from Hagerstown, a loop around the Beltway, and back to Hagerstown will cost about $120.32 each trip for one truck. If there are 100 trucks that's over $12,000 in diesel fuel.

Granted, they report having $1.5 million to burn, so presumably they can afford it.  But what are they accomplishing?

A little confused about that: was it on the Beltway that they meant to do this? Or did they do it back in Hagerstown at the huge parking lot they are using? For whose benefit was it, either way? That was Sunday; what about Monday? Success? I have to note that's not a semi; it's a pickup truck.
Nevertheless, organizers remained optimistic, pledging on Telegram, “We will hold the line!” as the group remained split over whether they should enter into Washington, D.C. proper.
I don't think they know what that phrase means.  They haven't formed a line, and they aren't holding anything.

One wonders if they will hold out in their "protest" until Wednesday (the "organizer" of this (I use the term loosely) has said he hopes to be finished with this by Wednesday.  He was counting on concessions from Congress.  Or maybe he was realizing this was not going to hold together much longer.  Well, he has enough sense not to try go into the city....).

This was perfectly predicatable in any major American city, and proof once again that America is not Canada, D.C. is not Ottawa. (I've never been to Canada, or Ottawa.  I'm sure it's lovely, and probably improved by not being an American city. I'm just saying, occupying Ottawa was obviously easier than occupying D.C., which this convoy has resolutely refused to do because, you know, they might be arrested.)
Maybe they should try that Printing and Engraving thing. That might get them some leverage.

I know "dark money" is involved in this.  I just think it's hilarious somebody wants to burn their money up that badly.  Some, however, see it differently:
Dr. King built a movement that was willing to go to jail, or suffer assaults by police, water cannon, and dogs. They actually changed the country (although that rubber band is trying to snap back. I'm waiting for the current Supremes to gut the Civil Rights Act and give us back our god-given right to segretate public bathrooms and lunch counters again. No, I'm not kidding.). They stayed with it and accomplished something, though it took almost 20 years just to get to legislation. These clowns expect new laws next week, for issues that are already moot. "Personal experiences that build connection"? You get the same thing on Facebook, but with Russian troll farms collapsing, that's going the way of the Dodo, too. And what commitments are "solidified" by this abject failure and waste of time? The leadership doesn't even have the courage of its convictions to so much as set a tire inside the Beltway. This whole thing disappears down the memory hole in the space of a few weeks. Just like January 6th, there's no organization here without an organizer. Trump got them to attack the Capitol, and then he was done with them. If Brian Base can't get another convoy organized to again pointlessly drive around the D.C. Beltway, who is going to commit to him? Or to whatever it is they think they're going to accomplish (but won't)?

  1. If there are any Canadians doing this I want them identified and on a permanent exclusion list once they go past the border.
