“Lawbreaking Teachers”

A) It’s not a law. It’s an advisory opinion by the AG. By law such an opinion cannot be used to support a criminal complaint. A law was proposed in the last legislative session. It was defeated. Paxton’s opinion and Abbott’s directive have almost no legal ground to stand on. The investigations by COS can’t lead to termination of parental rights (a civil action) for the same reasons.

B) Texans do not support school choice. What they want is equitable funding of schools, which they still don’t have. That they still don’t have that is on them; ignorance is a self-inflicted wound. But it’s also on the Texas GOP.

C) Teachers who refuse to report their trans students to CPS are doing God’s work. CPS employees should refuse to investigate, but that further weakens an agency that needs all the help it can get. Besides, it’s easy for me to tell you to quit your job on principles. I don’t have to pay your bills.

Assholes (the Texas GOP, I mean).
