Still Chewing On Chomsky

"Ukraine is now in a direct state of war with Russia. Consequently, the model can only be 'Ukrainian' and only on legally verified security guarantees," Kyiv's negotiator Mikhailo Podolyak said.
His analysis completely denies Ukraine any agency. I mean, aside from putting the U.S. at the center of an international conspiracy that Q-Anon adherents might have trouble believing. But he never considers the thoughts, feelings, wishes, intentions of the Ukrainians. He is disturbed by their suffering, but that is because the idea of suffering bothers him. The reality of it, and why people would even accept it as a necessary evil they must pass through, is not on his mind. He doesn’t even imagine them or the idea of their interests.

And that’s the problem. You know, sorta like this:
I recognize the subtle and distinct differences, but the outcome of either line of thinking is the same. And that’s because they share the same flaw. Which is to say, the same indifference to anyone who doesn’t think like they do. That, and a complete inability to imagine the situation as understood by other people, especially the people under siege in Ukraine.
