His Popularity Is Just Going To Grow

All because he can’t stand the thought of California burning? I mean, I have sprinklers in my home. Don’t you? Doesn’t everybody? (Q: even if we did, would they extinguish fires in the ceiling that started on the roof?) A reminder that the average rainfall in LA is 12” per year. And a question: what the hell is he talking about? Ah, yes: the famous forests of LA, limned in song and story. (East Texas is heavily forested. It takes an average of 60” rain per year to keep it alive. I know the forests west of the Rockies survive in drier conditions, and depend more on fire than the forests of my childhood (the conifers that only spread seed after flames open the cones); but no forest can exist in a desert.) The Delta Smelt is protected by federal law, not California fecklessness. And it has nothing whatsoever to do with firefighting in LA. Firefighters are overwhelmed by the conditions, not stymied by a fish. Oddly, while Trump blames California, Canada is helping control the fires. It seems that’s the kind of help California needs.

(Trump’s entire argument is born of anxiety. He can’t do anything about the catastrophe, and he can’t bear the responsibility. So he turns the blame on the victims. Simply because he can’t stand the anxiety.)

And what does this have to do with the price of eggs?
Oh…I see. But I’m not surprised.
I guess we’re supposed to be distracted by this:
On Monday, to protect the security and safety of United States citizens, President Trump declared that a national emergency exists at the southern border of the United States. The president directed me to take all appropriate action to support the activities of the secretary of homeland security in obtaining complete operational control of the southern border of the United States," the statement reads.
...
The 1,500 additional active-duty service members authorized by Salesses will initially be put to work on the placement of physical barriers and other border missions within the next 24 to 48 hours, a senior military official told the media.
The additional active-duty personnel includes 1,000 soldiers, as well as 500 Marines who had previously been on standby in Southern California to potentially help combat the Los Angeles County wildfires that broke out two weeks ago, the senior official said.
Besides, I thought Trump has already built the wall….

(Yes, I know: run in circles, scream and shout. Then watch the country turn on Trump as he halts home construction (immigrant labor) and raises the price of everything from food to oil to lumber (tariffs and immigrant labor). And replay that Hannity clip over and over again. Either America demands the Democrats retake Congress and assert Congressional authority; or we suffer like dumb animals undeserving of self-governance. Well, we’ve done it before. One thing is sure: nobody is going to save us from ourselves.)
