It’s Always Worse Than You Think

There were people on that plane? Fuck them!
"We don't know the names of the 67 people who were killed, and you are blaming Democrats and DEI and air traffic control and seemingly the member of the U.S. military who was flying that Black Hawk helicopter," [CNN’s Kaitlyn] Collins said.
"Don't you think you're getting ahead of the investigation right now?"
Trump responded, "No, I don't think so at all. I don't think the names of the people, you mean the names of the people that are on the plane? Uh, you think that's going to make a difference?
"I think that's not a very smart question. I'm surprised, coming from you."
Collins fired back, "Are you blaming yourself?"
"Please, please," Trump responded.
Granted, that last question was kinda dumb. Trump is never responsible for anything:
President Donald Trump moved quickly to remake the Department of Homeland Security Tuesday, firing the heads of the Transportation Security Administration and Coast Guard before their terms are up and eliminated all the members of a key aviation security advisory group.
Because, you know, DEI:
TSA Administrator David Pekoske was fired even though he was originally appointed by Trump during his first term and was in the middle of what was supposed to be Pekoske’s second five-year term in the job after he was reappointed by Biden and confirmed by the Senate.
When DEI is spelled E-L-O-N.

And as you keep turning the kaleidoscope, the picture keeps getting uglier:
Bash showed a live shot of the teams working to recover bodies, when Bash commented, "As this is happening, the president of the United States went into the White House briefing room, and almost immediately began to blame Democrats for the diversity programs that were in place, suggesting, as he admitted, without evidence, that perhaps there is a connection between that and what you are looking at."
Bash then played a portion of Trump's remarks.
"I put safety first. Obama, Biden and the Democrats put policy first, and they put politics at a level that nobody's ever seen, because this was the lowest level. Their policy was horrible and their politics was even worse. You have to be talented, naturally talented geniuses. You can't have regular people doing that job. They won't be able to do it. But we'll restore faith in American air travel."
Trump continued, "I'll have more to say about that. I do want to point out that various articles that appeared prior to my entering office, and here's one, the FAA's diversity push includes focus on hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities. That is amazing."
Getting rid of Biden-era Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies and returning to "meritocracy" has been a cornerstone of Trump's second term.
Bash once again went to the live shot.
"I just want to emphasize what you're looking at is live," Bash said of the recovery effort live shot. This is just a few miles down the road from the White House. The bodies of the 67 people believed to have perished are still being fished out of the Potomac River — the icy Potomac River — when we heard that from the president of the United States and from other senior members of his cabinet, in addition to some words of condolence and and remorse and and prayers for some of them."
At this point I’m just surprised Trump hasn’t gone home to play golf. Not holding my breath on that one. And the irony is: by holding this press conference so he can deny responsibility with irrational conspiracy theories and more shouting about “DEI”:
We are watching in realtime the systematic unraveling of decades aviation safety accident investigative precedent and process from the President of the United States.
Trump just makes it all about him, and makes himself more responsible.
It's not "politicizing a tragedy" to point out the top levels of the federal government aren't functional—the three key leaders here are drunk rapist TV show host at DoD, reality TV star at DoT, and nobody at FAA—and they're doing squat except spreading the same dysfunction down the ladder.
Small wonder Trump is blaming Biden. And yet:
