Trump, OTOH, has absolutely no idea how the Fed functions or what its interest rate settings mean. He seems to think it’s linked to the U.S. credit rating. But that measure is the bond market. And the bond market is beginning to look at us sideways. Imagine what it would do if the Fed was thinking like Trump does.

(Please note news accounts give Trump a sane reason for lowering interest rates (“cheap money before an election!”). That’s not Trump’s argument here. The argument here is just stone ignorant.)
