The assembled laughed at him. And he was, amazingly, too clueless to realize he was the joke.President Biden at the UN: "US military power must be our tool of last resort, not our first. And it should not be used as an answer to every problem we see around the world." pic.twitter.com/IW6hOSqsWT

"Biden closes his UN speech...and gets big applause."Biden: "As we pursue diplomacy across the board, the United States will champion the democratic values that go to the very heart of who we are as a nation and people -- freedom, equality, opportunity, and a belief in the universal rights of all people." pic.twitter.com/FCHipvLqgb

I do not miss the laughter at all.Biden closes his UN speech with this and gets big applause: "I stand here today for the first time in 20 years with the US not at war. We have turned the page ... Ladies and gentlemen, we cannot afford to waste any more time. Let's get to work. Let's make our better future now." pic.twitter.com/qM71Gw8iRj

This comes right at the point where the "news media" seem to be getting bored of Joe Biden and are starting up the carping and predicting and dismissing and ignoring that they always do to weaken or disempower or weaken Democratic presidents. Something I first learned during the piddling, by todays standard of corruption nothing "Bobby Baker scandal" aimed at LBJ. With Carter it started fast, at first making his Southern origin a tool to diminish him - Billy Carter didn't help much - and with Clinton it was anything they could dig up - Bill Clinton didn't help. With Obama it was his race and his reluctance to do anything very risky or bold, his reluctance to do anything risky didn't help.
ReplyDeleteI have learned over the years to appreciate LBJ and Carter far more than I did at the time, Clinton and Obama not nearly as much, I don't remember having so much respect for a president as I do Biden, after openly wishing he wouldn't run for president, which may be the most surprising lesson of my old age for me.
