Leegill Skolarship

Two points (well, three: Habba’s fingerprints are all over this):

A) the quoted language only applies to the DOJ. It has bugger all to do with New York or Georgia.

B) Trump is excluding the deadline in the rules, which is, if I recall news reports correctly, 90 days before Election Day. And the restriction applies only to starting or announcing a new investigation. It has no application to trial dockets. Those are controlled by the courts. DOJ has no authority over them. It may ask for a continuance if it has concerns about a pending election date, but the court can also tell DOJ to get ready for trial or forget about it.

C) in other words: Trump doesn’t understand what the quote means, and it has no application to any of his four pending trials, nor to the three he’s already lost.

I know he’s trying to undermine the courts. I just don’t think he can; or will. Consider the case of the “Boycott New York” trucker, who found out that not only did his reach exceed his grasp, but he was playing way out of his league:

He was reminded, in no uncertain terms, who signs his paycheck. And that was a direct assault on Engoron’s final judgment.

Trump is freaking out because he can’t pay this judgment and he can’t appeal it. And if he does, the interest clock just keeps ticking away, and he gets further and further away from being able to pay it.
