Yes, it’s racist AF. But that’s just lagniappe. CRT is as complex as deconstructionism, and one has as much place in public schools as the other. CRT is a legal theory that practically requires a law degree to begin to understand. Deconstruction requires a deep understanding of phenomenology (Heidegger especially). Sure, you can oversimplify either one, but why would you? Outside specific academic circles (i.e., below a graduate level), you can’t begin to teach either one. Anyone who tries really deserves to be condemned for doing a disservice to the subject and their students.“You start out in 1954 by saying, “N****r, n****r, n****r.” By 1968 you can’t say “n****r”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract.”

Critics like Pence don’t care. The real purpose of their complaint is to claim victory. When CRT is kept away, they will have won. Or have moved on. This is for “fundraging,” nothing more. That it appeals to racists is just a benefit.
