I know there’s a hue and cry to prosecute DeSantis and Abbott. I wouldn’t put any eggs in that basket. Criminal law is fairly precise in what conduct constitutes illegal activity, and it seldom includes just being a dick. Telling somebody something you know ain’t true isn’t fraud, for example. Putting someone on a plane is not human trafficking. As the poet said, “A patch of ice doth not a winter make.”

It’s more complicated than that, but that’s the gist of it. The real issue is Abbott and DeSantis want to have a club to beat Biden with. Focus on the immigrants, and don’t give it to them. It’s an openly racist attitude ploy (“THE BROWN PEOPLE ARE COMING!”). Focus on their abhorrent racism.
