I Would Worry…

His face and ear were splattered with blood, and I don’t remember his fists so much as his face, bravely defiant because he knew there was no more threat.

But I am confident Trump will bury whatever brief advantage he has in his braggadocio. He can’t help himself.

  1. I've been a huge fan of the NYT crossword puzzle for decades. Do them long enough and you can get decent, I do Thursdays to Sundays, earlier in the week versions aren't very challenging anymore. Yesterday they sent me a note that my subscription, which is just to the puzzle, renews on the first of August. The puzzle is a big money maker for the Times. I'm going to let it drop. I think the paper has lots it's way. Like the rest of the mainstream press, they have been losing influence. The precursor to the Biden push was that the NYT was successful at getting the president's of Harvard and Penn fired. I was angry then with their coverage, it bought into the right wing attack on universities and was misogynistic, all the president's questioned by congress were women. That was deliberate. The NYT went completely overboard, attacking the presidents with dozens and dozens of articles, even generating a timeliness! It was crazy, while at the same time conservative governors were dismantling their state university systems. The NYT knows their audience, wealthy and the professional class that aspires to wealth and influence. By hammering the university presidents, they eventually turned the boards and donors against them and they were forced out. I'm sure there were some metaphorical victory laps at the Times and Washington Post, along with other press places over their success.

They thought they could pull the same thing with Biden, and they still might. The number of articles they have generated on this issue is mind boggling, hundreds in a few weeks, and they will not let it go. They are dug in to prove their power.

All of this is sufficient to cancel, but the final straw was something unrelated to Biden. For the last several years the NYT seems to periodically front page an article about yrnas people, usually focused on minors since that is even more hot button and seems to be an issue that the right wing knows splits even people generally OK with the LGBTQ+ community. They are "just asking questions", don't you dare call the NYT homophonic. A day or two ago I got a special new email from the NYT, highlighting an editorial that was anti-trans and several other anti-trans articles. This was what you needed to send me as a special email? We have trans loved ones in our extended family, and I have friends with trans children. I've had enough of their soft bigotry, their misogyny, and their focus on upper class issues. Time to move on.
