Maybe these intrepid NYT reporters can leave D.C. and stop listening to the politicians and assuming they wouldn't say such things if people weren't clamoring for it, and go out to the hinterlands beyond the BosWash and find out....“‘This is happening all over the place—it is so much linked to the democratic backsliding and rising of authoritarian movements. …It’s about the same sort of post-truth world. You can just repeat a lie over and over and, because there’s so little trust, people will believe it.’” https://t.co/GP7aLO1JEe

... if people are clamoring for this bullshit.
Because the results of the November election and some of the recent polling on vaccinations, indicates they aren't. It indicates that democracy is not (and never has been) a perfect reciprocating machine where the people push and the elected officials feel the shove, and never act without the full and undivided support of a majority of the country (or their districts, or their states).
Because this bubble they all live in is getting real tiresome to the rest of us; especially the majority of us who don't get our information from Facebook or FoxNews or Newsmax or OAN. Or the chattering heads of politicians rushing to microphones to shout at us.
