Okay, “The X-Files” in 2016 had a running thread about a pandemic that was panicking America because it was ubiquitous and deadly, and the only hope was a vaccine from DNA (in that case, DNA from a human/alien hybrid). It was an apocalyptic future, a vision Scully had and was convinced was the future.
Weird coincidence, huh? All we lack was the widespread panic (a mainstay of fiction, especially film; but never really present IRL IRL we panicked over masks, not over the risk of dying.). Well, and the alien/human DNA.
There was talk of alien/lizard overlords though, so…
