“Please, Sir…”

FDR passed the first child labor laws not to protect children but to put adults back to work.

I still prefer to think of them as child protection laws, but they were passed as an economic measure.  Now they are being undermined as an economic measure.

In one case it was for the benefit of people (kids were being worked at much lower wages than adults).  In this case, it's for the benefit of capital.  Which is reprehensible, really. They really won’t be happy until we’re back to the 19th century.
And it can always get worse. "Please, sir…”
