Then again I think they're reacting to the influx of Californians; and, like much of the country, to the disaster of the pandemic.

That doesn't mean the rest of us don't know better after four years of a complete rejection of the "political class" in the Oval Office.  Besides, I know people like Rep. Boebert.  I wouldn't want them running a pick-up softball game, much less holding public office.
