NEW: A mass shooter in Buffalo, NY who killed at least 10 people had posted a manifesto online espousing the White Replacement Theory, per @BNONews.

White Replacement Theory has been long promoted and championed by Tucker Carlson on Fox News.pic.twitter.com/LaO82WpzfH
Gendron's manifesto cites the "great replacement" theory as his motivation, states that he became "racist" reading 4chan while "bored" during lockdown in 2020, lists the Christchurch shooter as the source of his radicalization, and describes how he illegally modified his AR-15.

Which is reprehensible, disgusting, and, as the Sheriff in Buffalo said, “Pure evil.” It’s also purely American:The manifesto explains that he chose his target because it was the zip code with the highest concentration of black people near him. Jews are another object of hatred, and he blames them for spreading Critical Race Theory and urges others to try to kill George Soros.

But can we blame FoxNews? The 1930s had hate-filled broadcasters like Father Coughlin who shared “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, defended the Nazis after Kristallnacht, promoted an anti-immigrant/America First agenda…and gained over 10 million radio listeners.https://t.co/xemEExxCTc

After all, I’m not blaming Father Coughlin.A self-described white supremecist traveled to a black neighborhood and murdered 10 people today, leaving behind a manifesto on the Great Replacement theory — a racist conspiracy theory endorsed repeatedly by Tucker Carlson, the nation’s most-watched political pundit

The accused murderer blames boredom brought on by Covid, and 4chan.“The left...become hysterical if you use the term ‘replacement,’ if you suggest that the Democratic Party is trying to replace the current electorate...with more obedient voters from the third world. Let’s just say it: That’s true.”

But, you know, everything’s connected:Here's Matt Gaetz applauding Tucker Carlson for championing White Replacement Theory, which today inspired a mass shooting. pic.twitter.com/zhjrA8VMbh

Yes, yes it clearly is:The shooter’s ideology, phrased somewhat less pungently, is @gop mainstream now. https://t.co/atGSsyiRBr

And what goes around, comes around. Or it should, anyway:Did you know: @EliseStefanik pushes white replacement theory? The #3 in the house GOP. @Liz_Cheney got removed for demanding truth. @GOPLeader should be asked about this.

Stefanik Blasted for 'Despicable' Facebook Ads Pushing 'Replacement Theory' https://t.co/RcuzJ37BiE
TV reporters: Please remember that @EliseStefanik had lots of Facebook ads pushing the Replacement Theory when you book her for you Sunday shows. Please do not allow her to slither out from under your questions—ask follow ups. https://t.co/PW3IesBsVl

Yeah, that’s not gonna happen, either. We’ve been down this road once or twice before.Anyway, if you go on Tucker’s show, if you contribute to mainstreaming this and making it acceptable, you have blood on your hands, and decent people should shun you.

So, it's quite likely that Twitch removing this channel violates Texas' new social media content moderation law, which is now in effect. Just to give you a sense of how messed up the law is. https://t.co/hhJzoxyrwi

Who’s going to sue Twitter while they still cap?The removal of this video violates Texas' HB 20, the law that compels social media websites to host content which they object to.

The Texas law does not have a carveout for content depicting crime, only for content that "directly incites" crime. https://t.co/H7zXeQx9kT
This will be the thing that changes everything before the next thing that changes everything. We can't ignore that there is no right to spew hate speech and lies, that is something that we will either learn or this will not only never end, it will get worse and worse and it will end up in the total suppression of legitimate speech.
ReplyDeleteI'm old enough so I remember back when Stephanik was held to be "different" from the worst of Republican-fascists just as Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe were claimed to be "different" in the same way.
The free-press has this blood on their hands as much as the Supreme Court and the other Republican-fascists do. Soledad O'Brien's tweet is a dead letter, unfortunately. The First Amendment as it is written and interpreted is as bad as the Second one in this issue.
