Jackson was a war hero, wasn’t he? Although he did relocate the natives against their will. I guess one out of two is good enough. (I get the argument. I just don’t think DeSantis is resonant enough to reach the deep chords of Jacksonian memory waiting to be sounded.)

This is pretty much the argument W made in the beginning of the century. The cuts wouldn’t affect Grandma, just the grandkids. Because Grandma votes and the grandkids don’t.

Turns out, Grandma loves her grandkids, and was not indifferent to their fate. W even said he had political capital to spend. It went up like the bonfire of the vanities. Grandma won, and so did her grandkids.
