George Santos has been hit so hard by the House Ethics Committee they made a criminal referral to the DOJ. (Santos already faces 21 charges in New York for felony fraud and election violations.) So Santos quite reasonably says we need to re-write the Constitution.
But let’s start with what he did, according to the Committee.
1. Santos turned his campaign into an organized fraud operation to enrich himself.
2. Santos stole money from his campaign and pocketed donor money.
3. Reported fictitious loans to his campaign account to make it appear to prospective donors that he was a more viable candidate.
4. Then used his connections to influential donors to create new fraudulent business opportunities for himself.
5. Continued the facade of a serious candidate to deceive donors by creating a fictitious background. And pertinent to his “solution” to all this:
The Committee also noted that they made several attempts to get Santos to make corrections on his financial disclosures and campaign finance reports, which he largely ignored. They also said that he refused to cooperate, lied to the Committee, and attempted to shift blame to his treasurer. He also refused to submit to an interview under oath to give his side of the story.Santos' solution to all this is to out-Trump Trump:
"I am humbled yet again and reminded that I am human and I have flaws, but I will not stand by as I am stoned by those who have flaws themselves," Santos said. "I will continue on my mission to serve my constituents up until I am allowed. I will however NOT be seeking re-election for a second term in 2024 as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time."Or maybe he wants to out-Jesus Jesus.
"It is a disgusting politicized smear that shows the depths of how low our federal government has sunk," Santos said. "Everyone who participated in this grave miscarriage of Justice should all be ashamed of themselves. We the People desperately need an Article V Constitutional Convention."
"We are quickly approaching $34 trillion dollars in debt, the government is continuously on the verge of a shutdown, our southern border is wide open, our current President is the head of an influence peddling crime family, and all this Congress wants to do is attack their political enemies with tit for tat unconstitutional censures, impeachments, expulsions and ethics investigations," he added. We can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, or enforce criminal laws and ethical standards while we have any other issues to deal with whatsoever, because such enforcements are unconstitutional (huh?). (Art. I gives Congress express power to set its own rules and enforce them, and to establish criminal justice laws as well as civil justice laws..) And an Art V convention would solve all this by getting three-fourths of the states to void the entirety of Art. I of the Constitution? To save George Santos from the consequences of his actions?
I would say Trump has done this to us, but that would distract from how pathetic Santos is. This is just sad.
