NBC/WSJ Poll - when do you think the economy is ready to reopen and "return to normal" after coronavirus?— Josh Jordan (@NumbersMuncher) April 19, 2020
Now - 3%
Next few weeks - 15%
Next few months - 45%
In the next year - 26%
Longer than a year - 6%
For all of the talk of reopening now, it's a very small but vocal number.
I'm old enough to remember when a very large and vocal minority protested the Vietnam War. 1968 saw the largest number of casualties (American) in a single year in that war (16, 592, if you're wondering. About 24% of the number of Americans dead so far this year from coronavirus. We're closing in on the total number of American casualties in that war); the number declined every year thereafter. It also saw the strongest effort to oppose the war, and war the finally ended 7 years later.
I also remember a very large and vocal minority that protested the invasion of Iraq. Tell me, have we withdrawn all our troops from there yet?
The "vocal number" protesting now, around the country? I've seen more people in a rock concert.
