and I won't even propose legislation to fix our electricity crisis. I won't do a goddamned thing to make Texas look any less like a failed state or a third-world nation than it already does, but I will throw a bone to my rabid GOP base and try to get Alan West off my back. No water, no food, no money? Look over there, the bars are open!”TEXAS—“I’m issuing a new executive order that rescinds most of the earlier executive orders.”@GovAbbott orders 100% of businesses in #Texas open and ends statewide mask mandate starting next Wednesday, March 10. pic.twitter.com/uALxx9cSjF

The only people in Texas who matter: white, Republican, and very conservative.Data suggesting how Gov. Abbott's lifting of #COVID19 measures in order to "open Texas" will land with target audiences.

The ending of Texas' statewide mask mandate comes as:
— Sarah Glen (@saraheglen) March 2, 2021
- Texas has reported more than 71,000 new COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days.
- That number is likely an undercount because of last month's winter storm.

According to the latest @TexasTribune polling:
— Sarah Glen (@saraheglen) March 2, 2021
- 88% of Texas voters said they’re wearing masks when in close contact with people outside of their households.
- That group includes 98% of Democrats and 81% of Republicans. https://t.co/oNqL6NAN7o
I'm not taking mine off. In fact, I scheduled my first vaccine shot this morning, and the information provided explicitly said I should continue wearing a mask/social distancing even after the vaccine is effective (no earlier than 7 days after the second shot). I’m not going to a restaurant or any crowded indoor space anytime soon. I count myself among the 88% who aren’t nearly as stupid or irresponsible as our governor. The absence of statewide restrictions should not be a signal to Texans to stop wearing masks, social distancing or doing other things to keep the virus from spreading, said Dr. John Carlo a member of the Texas Medical Association’s COVID-19 task force. https://t.co/bio8dbohdq

When Gov. Greg Abbott announced a statewide mask mandate, I was on a reporting trip to Houston.

On that Thursday, July 2nd, there were 7,434 new #COVID19 cases in #Texas, and 44 deaths.
Yesterday, there were 8,140 cases and 129 deaths.
I'm willing to bet all I have that when cases rise again, and deaths, Abbott will blame people for going to bars (he did it once before) and people not getting vaccinated fast enough. Anything to disavow responsibility.Hi, ICU nurse here in Austin. So disgusted & sick to my stomach over this news. Less than 20% of the state has been vaccinated and we are just barely starting to get relief in the hospitals from Covid surges. This is absolutely too early to lift restrictions.
