As Goes Ottawa, So Goes U.S.A.?

How many trucks does he imagine this would take? And how many truck drivers have nothing better to do?

How freaking dumb is this guy? Am I supposed to be afraid of him? If he’s on Facebook, apparently I’m required to be.

I don’t make the rules.

And yes, I am aware of the truck blockade on the bridge between the Detroit and Windsor, Ontario:

The Ambassador Bridge is the busiest U.S.-Canadian border crossing, carrying 25% of all trade between the two countries, and the effects of the blockade there were felt rapidly.

Ford said its Windsor engine plant reopened Thursday after being shut down on Wednesday because of a lack of parts. But the factory and the company’s assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, near Toronto, were operating at reduced capacity, the automaker said.

On the U.S. side, GM sent the first shift home two hours early Thursday at its Flint, Michigan, heavy-duty pickup truck plant due to parts shortages.

Stellantis cut short the first shift Thursday at its Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio, because of parts shortages. The plant was running normally on Friday.

Also, Honda planned to stop production on one assembly line during the day shift Friday at its plant in Alliston, Ontario.

Toyota said three of its plants in Ontario closed for the rest of the week because of parts shortages, and production also had to be curtailed in Georgetown, Kentucky.
I don't think that's how you win friends and influence people, especially in the more conservative parts of the country.  And while I'm not a fan of imprisonment, I do think once Ontario starts locking people up, this whole blockade vanishes like snow in the spring time.  The court cases after January 6th in the country have already pretty much broken up the major anti-government groups, and all the little hangers-on and groupies are giving up their zeal for revolution very rapidly in the reality of the government response to lawlessness.  Which, as even Thomas Jefferson recognized, is the main reason government is there in the first place.

To end a blockade now in its fifth day, authorities in Canada plan to enact temporary orders that will fine protestors blocking the Ambassador Bridge up to $100,000 and sentence them to up to a year in jail.

Officials also will take away the personal or commercial drivers licenses of anyone who defies the orders, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Friday.

"To those trying to force a political agenda through disruption, intimidation and chaos, my message to you is this: Your right to make a political statement does not outweigh the right of hundreds of thousands of workers to earn their living. It does not outweigh our right to get food across our borders," he said.

"So let me be as clear as I can: There will be consequences for these actions and they will be severe."

The orders will make it clear that blocking the movement of "goods, people and services across critical infrastructure" is illegal, Ford said, including border crossings, airports, bridges, highways and railways.

Additionally, the Windsor Police Department has put out a new warning to the demonstrators that they could soon be arrested if they don't leave the bridge.

"We are providing notice that anyone blocking streets or assisting others in the blocking of streets may be committing a criminal offence and must immediately cease further unlawful activity or you may face charges," the department said. "You could be arrested if you are a party to the offence or assisting others in the direct or indirect commission of this offence."

The police also warned the demonstrators that their vehicles could be seized, and said that any Americans who get arrested may be denied reentry to their native country.

All pursuant to a court-ordered injunction taking effect at the appointed hour.  By the time you read this, the situation may be very different.

Turn out the liiiights, the party's over....

  1. I wonder if the Canadian governments strategy was to allow the blockade to start having an economic impact on Canadians, whittling down the already minority of supporters for them to a point where its unsustainable.
I think they're going to find that if they don't effectively block American fascist media and social-disease media, they're going to pay an even heavier price than we are because they are more vulnerable. They've got hate laws, unless the courts have wrecked those there, they should use them.
