You Wanna Fight Over Texas?

Good luck.

I keep reading about how abortion turned out voters on Election Day. Not in Texas. At least not enough to defeat anti-abortion activists in the Legislature. Texas still has the most restrictive law on abortion around, and it’s probably only going to get worse. Paxton can’t prosecute crimes, but he wants DA’s to have the power to prosecute women who leave Texas for an abortion in counties (the major urban ones) where elected DA’s won’t prosecute. Because, you know, local control, or something.

I don’t see anybody-DNC or AOC or Bernie-pouring $$ into Texas to fight that. I wouldn’t advise them to. Beto ran an ad on abortion I was sure would bring him into striking distance of Abbott.

He wasn’t even close.

The cities don’t vote and the rural areas rule. That isn’t going to change because someone on Twitter boldly declares we can’t “leave whole states to the other side.”  Not to mention that phrasing is disgustingly Manichaean and anti-democratic.

Get used to entrenched differences of opinion and learn to accept compromise. “Us v. them” is what fueled the last 6 years. We can do without it for awhile.
